What is Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of soft tissues in the body. These manipulations are performed by a licensed massage therapist and usually involve the use of hands, knuckles, forearms and elbows. Massage is performed on soft tissue (aka. the muscle), connective tissue, tendons, and ligaments. There have been many studies that show the benefits of massage. Some benefits include the prevention of anxiety, digestive disorders, headaches, sports injuries and temporomandibular joint pain.

What is Relaxation Massage?

A relaxation massage is one of the more popular types of massage and is typically referred to as a Swedish Massage. The goal of a relaxation massage is to relax the whole body by using a combination of long gliding strokes, kneading, friction and tapping strokes. This modality is great for any client seeking relaxation.

What is Therapeutic Massage?

Therapeutic Massage, also referred to as rehabilitative, clinical, or deep tissue massage, uses a variety of techniques to relieve chronic pain, acute pain, nerve compression, and postural issues. This type of massage is for clients that have a ‘trouble spot’ that needs to be worked out, so that they can perform activities of daily living with less pain.
