Intro to Reiki - Part 1

For those who are unfamiliar with Reiki energy or practitioners, the results from a Google search will quickly tell you that Reiki is:

The combination of two Japanese words Rei (spirit) and Ki (universal life force) that means spiritually guided life force energy.

A form of touch healing that is administered by an individual who has been attuned by a Reiki Master.

A practice that was re-introduced to humanity in 1922 by Mikao Usui.

This simple explanation sometimes leaves unanswered questions in the minds of those who are unfamiliar with forms of energy healing. For instance, what is 'energy healing'? Is it physical, mental, or emotional? Is this just some woo-woo New Age gimmick or does Reiki actually work?

What is energy healing? Science has now proven that matter produces an energy field on a cellular level. We also know that the brain produces brainwaves which are a form of energy. The human body is made up of cells that have their own frequencies they use to communicate with each other. And, the human brain, which is basically the control room for the body, produces its own frequencies. These two basic facts show that there is a sort of energy field that surrounds every human body.

Over time things like constantly thinking negative thoughts, consuming polluted nutrition, over exposure to electromagnetic fields, and traumatic and stressful situations create imbalances in your body’s energy field. For thousands of years, those who practice Eastern forms of healing have recognized that physical disease is often directly related to non-physical dis-ease in a person’s energy field. In other words, Eastern healing modalities believe that once your energy field is balanced and cleared, you will be much less susceptible to physical ailments. Reiki practitioners are NOT physicians, nor do we claim that Reiki should be used to replace Western medicine. Instead, we believe Reiki is complementary to Western medicine as it treats the physical body while Reiki helps a person’s non-physical bodies.
